Educate and Engage on a Non-Profit Budget

This session will give learning professionals an opportunity to support education and outreach in our community. We will combine a presentation offering valuable tips for training on a shoestring budget with a donation drive supporting two of Discover Goodwill’s life-changing programs serving individuals with disadvantages and disabilities.

Course Overview

Even trainers with small budgets can effectively educate their workforce, increase engagement and help win the battle for employee retention.  Presenter Gary Smith is the Director of Learning and Development at Discover Goodwill of Southern and Western Colorado.  Gary will discuss the challenges he has faced as a learning professional in the non-profit sector and how he has overcome those challenges.  You will learn his simple strategy to increase engagement and improve employee retention on a budget.

About our Speaker:
Gary Smith

Gary is a certified training professional with a Bachelors in Occupational Education and a Masters in Business Administration.  Before coming to Discover Goodwill, he spent 22 years in what he refers to as the largest training organization in the country, the U.S. Army.  Gary is a glass-half-full learning professional.  He sees L&D as a strategic partner, facilitating success through employee and organizational development.
If you would like to support Goodwill, your material donations will help support the following educational programs:
  • Possibilities: A first-of-its-kind life skills program for youth with disabilities and learning challenges.  Please stay after the presentation for an optional tour of our 14,000 square-foot town square used to create everyday living experiences and encourage safe and unlimited learning.
  • Pursuits: A highly specialized skill development program designed exclusively for young adults with intellectual and learning challenges.  Expert instructors work closely with students to help them develop the tools they need to become engaged and independent adults.  Pursuits allows participating youth to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.

If you wish to support these programs with your donations, we will provide carts in the presentation hall where you can donate your gently-used items.  For those with a large volume of donations, we have a convenient drive-thru attended donation center on the east side of the building. All donations are greatly appreciated.
