Culture as Catalyst:

How understanding the dimensions of culture can boost everything from local team effectiveness to global business deployments

What is it about culture that fascinates us? Google the topic and you will find over a billion references and links. In this discussion, we will explore instruments and activities that use culture as a catalyst to accelerate individual development, boost team performance, and prepare teams to engage around the world. Based on real life case studies from the US Olympic Committee and elsewhere, elements of culture will be discussed and we will examine how these elements work together to enhance organizational performance. Insights covered will not only apply to teams with a culturally diverse make-up, but in reality, can benefit any leader with a diverse make-up of team members.

About our Speaker:

In his role at the USOC, James is responsible for training, organizational development and effectiveness, and compensation programs. He is the Director of the USOC’s corporate university, the TeamUSA Academy of Learning and Leadership which specializes in anchoring corporate learning topics in Olympic sport via experiential learning. Prior to joining the USOC in 2010, James was Senior Human Capital consultant at Deloitte Consulting and charged with developing solutions to client needs in the areas of leadership and change. Before this change in industry, James accumulated 13 years of experience in the Insurance and Financial Services industry.

James earned his B.A. in Economics from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and subsequently received his MBA in Global Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona. In another of his lifelong pursuits, James was awarded his 4th degree black belt in Chinese Kempo Karate in 2012.
