Teaching Leaders to Critically Think:
Lessons from the Classroom to the Boardroom
February’s luncheon is a return to Harrison High School’s 21st Century Program, and features a very special set of guest speakers: the students themselves. Back in November, we heard from Department Chair Rick Freehling, who overviewed the innovative program which has revolutionized the way students are taught with critical thinking as the cornerstone, which is used interdisciplinary with all other courses. After this session, the students were placed in small groups and given an assignment to prepare a short presentation on how to use this same approach in the business world. Part of the preparation included visits from ATD members, who volunteered time in the classroom to help student better understand the types of problems business leaders face and what gets in the way of sound decision making. Each small group will have an opportunity to present out to attendees at the luncheon with an award going to the top presentation – as selected by our attendees. This partnership with Harrison High School is one of the ways our membership supports our local community and we are hoping for an excellent turn out, so please consider attending and bring a guest or two who might benefit from the topic. Additionally, we are putting together “swag bags” for all the students as a “thank you” for their hard work and sharing of their insight, including items collected from our members. So if you have a donation – say, a promotional item your company gives out – please contact Jen at jen.huey@franklincovey.com, who is coordinating the creation of the bags.
Lunch will be served and included in the cost of this event.
